Menorca

Menorca is the most easterly of the Balearic Islands. Known as a family holiday destination, it is the most tranquil and best preserved of the four islands. For the main part, it has avoided the over development that has occurred on parts of the neighbouring islands and in other parts of mainland Spain. Consequently, it has been granted special status by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. It has a rich culture and history, which includes time under both British and French rule in the eighteenth century and is now part of the autonomous region of the Balearics with its own local government run from Mahon (Maó), the capital.

The hottest months are July and August, although it can also be quite hot in June and September. The peak holiday season is considered to be from the beginning of June until the end of September and, during these months, you can swim in the sea very comfortably. Off season, although it is not guaranteed to be settled, it is often sunny and warm. In the winter it is cooler and generally less settled, but can still be sunny and is often perfect for walking and cycling.
